Families in Transition (FIT)
Families in Transition is a transitional supportive housing program based on the efforts of local Christians working together to provide support to homeless, pregnant women and their children. Women may participate in the program for up to twenty-four months.
We have two locations that serve up to 50 families. If you are interested in Families In Transition, please contact us by calling 901.260.HOME.

Criteria for entering the program include:
- 18 years of age or older single women
- Pregnant or parenting with up to three other children
- Homeless; and a resident of Shelby County
Potential participants proceed through interviews, criminal background checks, and drug screens before admittance. Participants also must provide a copy of up-to-date medical records.
Along with the Families In Transition Social Worker, each participant assists in developing her own individual case plan. These plans are designed to help each woman identify strengths and achieve success.
Families In Transition provides and networks with other agencies to provide services to lead women toward self-sufficient living. These services are designed as a home visitation model and include but are not limited to:
- Life Skills Classes
- Personal and Career Development
- Case Management
- Mentoring
- Health, Nutrition & Hygiene
- Prenatal & Postnatal Services
- Counseling
- Parenting Classes
- Housekeeping
- Kids In Transition Support Group
- ASEBA Observation Assessments
- Substance Abuse Services
- Spiritual Support
- Financial Management
While being in Families In Transition, participants must, on a full-time basis, pursue education or be employed.
