Who Was Liz LaVelle?
Liz LaVelle was the third child of Dr. David and Jenny LaVelle. Liz lived with enthusiasm and a passion for life. She had a huge heart for those that are unable to help themselves. Liz’s special passion was for foster children and children with learning disorders. During her time in high school at Harding Academy she helped convince her parents to become foster parents. She worked very closely with her parents to take care of 3 foster children for most of her senior year. Liz was studying psychology at Lipscomb University in Nashville with the goal of eventually working at Agape Child and Family Services to help children with learning problems that are in foster care.
Liz passed away tragically a month after her 20th birthday while driving to Nashville to see her brother. Her loss has left a very large void in the lives of those who knew her, but her love and passion for children in need lives on in the hearts of those she touched. That is why Cirque du Velos has chosen to honor Liz’s memory and to support Agape in their work to help children and families in need.
Liz's Ride for Agape:
Cirque du Velos created the Memphis Invitational Club Championship Series in 2010 as a way to provide more local racing for cyclists in the greater Memphis area. At that time, most racers were required to travel long distances to Middle or East Tennessee in order to get to race in cycling events. The series has both an individual and team component in its scoring. Over the last few years the series has experienced significant growth drawing 100 cyclists on average to each event. This year it was determined that the series would be an excellent opportunity to honor the life of Liz LaVelle and raise money in support of Agape Child and Family Services. Renamed Liz's Ride for Agape the series now provides an opportunity to honor the memory of Liz LaVelle, and celebrate and support her heart's mission for the fatherless.
